This body of work is meant to engage you or touch you in some
way that allows you to participate in the work with your own imagination.
Photography is a very literal medium and by removing some of the
detail in the image I’m able to use photography as a more expressive medium.
The lack of detail hopefully allows you to participate more
freely in the work by allowing you to attach your own associations to the image.
The blur is also an outgrowth of the oil paintings I’ve done
where the blending of color and form is very important to me in the process and
enables much of the expression in the image.
Spontaneity, surprise and chance are important elements
in the process that keep the outcome fresh, new, different and fun. Since I have
no idea how the image will turn out, it’s always a surprise that leads to more
experimentation.
The idea of traveling around the world is exciting to me. It
stimulates me to create new work which makes me want to travel more and create
more work.
Travel adds a sense of history, culture and
adventure.
Irony comes into play at times when the image
looks nothing like what the title may suggest.
I print all my own work because printing is part of my creative
process. I am able to make creative choices as to how the image is interpreted
in the final print. My printing preferences and choices or styles evolve over
time allowing for new interpretations of the image.
The process of blurring or blending the image is all done in
camera with one exposure and a very slow shutter speed while I move the camera.
The computer is only used to enhance the color and contrast and to print the
image.
All prints are done using the latest technology in archival
inks, canvas and paper then coated for durability and light fastness.
